PAINTED BOWLS
I AM GRATEFUL TO JIM SANNERUD FOR TEACHING ME THE ART OF THE PAINTED BOWL. JIM'S NORDIC BACKGROUND IS REFLECTED IN HIS PAINTED BOWLS.
I USE A BRAND CALLED OLD FASHIONED MILK PAINT. IT IS WATER-BASED, APPLIES SMOOTHLY, AND IS VERY DURABLE WHEN IT DRIES.

I FINISH SHAPING THE BOWL INSIDE AND OUT, THEN APPLY 2 COATS OF MILK PAINT TO THE OUTSIDE. I COAT INSIDE AND OUT WITH FILTERED, HEAT-TREATED WALNUT OIL, WHICH IS DESIGNED FOR BOWLS AND OTHER WOOD SURFACES.

WHY DO I LOVE PAINTED BOWLS? I LOVE THE BRIGHT AND VIBRANT COLORS. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT THAT THE PAINT MAKES THE EXPOSED GRAIN ON THE INSIDE OF THE BOWL EVEN MORE SPECIAL WHEN YOU PEEK INSIDE! THE SMALL BOWLS IN THE FIRST ROW ARE ALL SPALTED BIRCH. THE RIM OF THE BOWL GIVES YOU A HINT OF WHAT'S INSIDE, WHERE THE BEAUTY OF THE WOOD IS EVEN MORE CONCENTRATED!
